Default Replacing shift motor on a 2004 Honda Rancher ES

I need to replace the shift motor on my2004 Honda Rancher. If I replace just the shift motor are there any issues I need to be concerned with other than taking it off and bolting on a new one. I have heard timing mentioned but wonder if this is a problem if you only remove the motor and not the gear box it mounts to?

Nah its just straight forward on motor replacement.Unplug and remove bolts and reassemble..I would lube the oring on the nose of shift motor this will make an easy reasssemble...I would also replaced the lube on the shifting fan gears tho....the paste honda uses get old and stiff an could cause some shifting problem also.
