Honda 250ex Carburetor problems
 

Hi, I have a 2006 Honda 250ex and I have some problems with it. Last week I decided to clean my carb for maintenance (before that, it was working perfectly) and now, it is not like before. When the ATV is cold, it will idle fine and works great. But when it is hot after I ride it like 5 minutes, the second I let off the gas, it dies. I already tried to adjust the carb when it's hot, but it was terrible, the idle wasnt normal and when I was riding it, the second I gave gas, the engine was going at the max speed and it was making a weird noise. My air filter is clean and the fuel valve is open. I could have made a mistake when rebuilding the carb because I'm a beginner, so what's the problem ?

If everything was fine before you messed with the carb, then you most likely did something wrong on re-assembly. Take it apart again and make sure everything is in its place; needle, float, etc. You said you are a beginner so your best bet is to get yourself a service manual. Even if you are experienced, it is a good thing to have. Once you get you machine running well, do not mess with the carb as part of maintenance. Regular maintenance on the TRX250EX includes: changing oil, cleaning air filter. Other maintenance: adjusting valves (The valves don't need much attention, usually about once a year) lubing cables, repacking bearings, etc. Obviously, how often you ride and the conditions you ride in will determine how frequently certain items need to be performed. With an engine that is running well, the reason to get into the carb is for jetting purposes. Good luck and post what you find out.

Thé pilot jet was kind of blocked, I blowed the carburetor with the air gun and it worked ! Thanks !

Glad you got it working, but a clogged pilot jet would not have caused the problems you described except for the idling issue. You may have had a bind in the throttle cable that caused the instant revs or you may have put the carb slide in 180 degrees out (if that is even possible).

Forgot to mention that I adjusted the Idle screw after cleaning the carb and the jets. I will also change the engine oil this weekend, it needed new oil. I will post my review next week, I'll be riding alot Saturday !
