Honda 400? 2004-2006. Any good?

Hey guys I have been repeatedly thinking about buying a new bike. I have really come to the conclusion of the Honda 400 rancher not only for the perfect size atv but the price of one in my location 2004-2006. I want to know if these bikes are reliable and will they last long. I have heard a few people saying they've rebuilt them a lot, trans no good, bearings and seals suck, etc. But there is another guy that has 13000km on his with no engine work. Can someone who has had one tell me if they are any good and what the problems they have had with them. Thanks! This is a pic of one in my area the guy wants 2700 Obo for is it a good deal?

Seen some overpriced (I think) '04 400 4x4 around $4500 so I think that's a good deal considering it looks very well maintained and with nice stuffs.

The 400 Auto had a recall as the computer controlling the auto box was faulty. Sales of the bike never recovered from this. However I maintain quite a few, and they have been pretty good. The alternators don't last as long as the 350, but "touch wood" we have never had to work on the auto gearbox, and many are becoming "heavy smokers" due to the amount of hours on them. One big problem with the 400 is Honda parts supply, which is terrible for this model. Two months for clutch shoes, A month for a starter clutch, now we are waiting another six weeks for oversize piston rings. Unless the 420 I rode was faulty, the 400 Auto is a lot better automatic than the 420 Auto that replaced it.

Thanks for letting me in on the information. I take care of my bikes really well and am still on my same 220 bayou when two of my other friends are on there 3rd bikes. There is a 400 rancher in my area with 5800km which is about 3000miles and is mint condition. Has origianal windshield, stock tires, gun case, and a 5' plow for $3800obo. It's looks like the owner only used it for hunting. I should be able to double what is on it for km before having to change anything but maybe some bearings. Thanks for the info it only furthers my wanting of this bike.
