I was looking for a suzuki ozark and came across fourtrax 300 4x4
How do these machines stack up and compare? The fourtrax I found appears to be in great shape. They want 2600 for it and ozarks go for about 1100-1400. How is the fourtrax 300 4x4? Can I switch it into 2wd? Thoughts? Looking to do some chores and have a little fun. My kids will be riding it too. They are 14,12 and 10.

The 300 is a bit of a legend. This is the model that Honda built it's reputation for making good Quads on. However, the newest is over 17 years old, and they did have a couple of built in flaws like the fragile rear axle. The main reason for their enduring popularity is that engine, which, if the carb is right, will start first time, every time, and tick over like a clock. They are permanent 4WD, a pity, as it would have cost Honda a few dollars apiece to fit a dog clutch to that transfer box by your left toe. I am in the UK but 2600 seems a lot, I bet they were about that price new in the 1990s.

2600 does seem a bit pricey, should be able to pick one up for around 1500-1800. They are a reliable atv. My brother in law has one since he purchased new in 87. Runs great. I put a carb rebuild kit $20 and a new rear axle and hubs in it this winter $187. Only reason for the axle was due to the cotter pin fell out/or broke off and allowed the axle nut to loosen up and ended with a stripped hub and axle.....if I were in the market for that size atv and ran accross one in good shape for a decent price, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Also, tons of parts online for these atvs.
