Please tell all the ladies and gentlemen how you fixed the electrical fault, they have just waded though a page and a half of posts, you fixed it, but don't say how.

Hopefully the knocking is because you adjusted the valves on the wrong TDC. Get it to TDC on the compression stroke and check clearances again.

 

 

 

 

 

OK, looks like you have a fault inside the engine. Get a workshop manual if you are going to strip it yourself, or send it to a repair shop. The only engine I have ever had that got very hot quickly had a badly worn exhaust cam. No idea if this is your problem.

 

 

Check the orientation of the oil filter and verify the larger opening is toward the case cover as these get put in backwards all the time
