86 honda trx200sx no spark
 

Recently acquired a couple old Hondas, one is a 82 185s (ill get to that one in another thread) and one is an 86 trx200sx. So as the title says, no spark. I have tried to solve the problem by throwing parts at it. Replaced plug, wire/coil, cdi, key switch, and battery. I have also tried bypassing the kill switch (not sure if it works by opening on closing a circuit so I tried it both ways). Has compression, gets fuel (plus I tried starting fluid). No spark. If you remove the plug from the head and crank there is no spark at all. Is there a fuse or fusible link somewhere that I am missing? ANy other suggestions?

Most likely either exciter, or trigger coil failure. Always check the ignition system out before "throwing parts at it". Honda, back then, were recommending resistance tests for electronic components, I find this mostly a waste of time but trigger coil (pulse generator) 20 to 40 ohms, exciter 100 to 400 ohms, I go for open circuit = bad, dead short = bad anything in between may be OK, and with the voltage set to AC on your meter, see if spinning the engine over produces voltage from exciter and trigger coils.
