Default Foreman 450es having control issues when turning hard left

I have a 2001 Honda Foreman ES, and when I make a hard left turn I can't shift and it dies if I'm not giving it gas (if I turn while idling) Any ideas as to what is going on? I think the light control works when this happens though, and the display doesn't have any issues.

Your shifter uses a solenoid-operated mechanism, controlled by a switch by the left handle. I would look for a worn
wire that is getting moved by the handlebar when you turn. Trace them to see what is giving you the intermittency.
You may have to open the switch housing.

But, since you say your gear indicator comes on properly, that points to a wire down my the shifter solenoid.
