Default Brand New Honda rancher bad gas mileage

I recently bought a Honda rancher, I currently have 40 miles on it and my fuel tank is almost empty. I do a lot of stop and go riding so that takes alot of gas but there's no way that's the reason for how bad the gas mileage is. Will my gas mileage improve after the engine is broken in ?? Or should I take the quad back to the dealer ?.

One of our customers bought a new bike from a main dealer (rather than us) and was telling me it had terrible fuel consumption when he got it. He had taken it back to the dealer and they fitted a new injector, which had cured the problem. Can't remember if it was a Honda 420 or a Suzuki King Quad.

I just sent an email to the dealer about the fuel consumption, I'm thinking that maybe because the ATV is new that's the reason its using so much fuel but I'm not sure. Thank you for your help BTW.

First of all, are you sure the tank was completely full to begin with, or just full enough to make the gauge read full. With most ATVs it seems like you can ride for 40 miles before the gas gauge even starts to drop, then over the next 40 miles the tank goes empty. I wouldn't be so quick to worry about it.

When I bought the quad the screen showed it was full although I didn't look in the tank but the dealer said he filled it up. I plan on refilling the tank and testing it on a long ATV ride. Thank you for your help I really appreciate it.
