Honda rancher 420fa

I've got a 09 honda trx420fa that will crank and run fine lurches when you put it in gear but will not move it is the electric shift model does the clutches work off of oil pressure? Need help to find the problem

I think the clutches are lifted by hydraulics, to be honest we avoided them like the plauge when they came out, and steered prospective buyers to the Suzuki King Quads which have a far nicer and much simpler, belt drive automatic. However Honda are ploughing on with the design, and are using it in both current 420 Autos and Rubicons, so we are getting a few to fix. I would take a look at the ES motor for a start, this does give trouble on the simpler 420ES. Also had an FA a couple of weeks ago that would go in reverse and back into neutral, but wouldn't then go into D or 1st, tried a new angle sensor and everything was back to normal. I suspect even the dealers will be having trouble tracing faults on 420FA gearboxes. If you do want to fix it yourself, get the workshop manual. There will be a list of tests which should point to the fault.

I think there was an recall on the clutches..Doesnt atv cut off when accelarate?

Could be the centrifugal clutch worn out, or the multiplates, though as there are two multiplates, I would be surprised if they both wore out at exactly the same time. It hasn't gone "front wheel drive" has it? Due to a set of splines to the rear end wearing out. Common on the swinging arm versions but the IRS rear end is a much better design.

I have the IRS an no it does not cut off it wont move just revs up I replaced both clutches

Did this fault occur after you replaced the clutches? It is possible you got something wrong during assembly, that long Quill feed down the centre of the multiplates is awkward to get back in, and very delicate. My point about the rear axle etc was, does it move in 4WD, indicating rear axle failure rather than clutch/gearbox?

I bought it not moving I've replaced the clutches an o-rings in 4wd or not it still won't move
