I ride desert XC with a bunch of guys who ride Shees that are modded to the moon. My opinion is that the Shee is good for going fast in a straight line (like a muscle car), and that's about all!! The suspension is lame, the frame geometry is terrible for trail riding or any kind of freestyle (jumping, etc.), they are heavy, and when the powerband hits the tires just spin and kick up a bunch of roost. Thing is, not one of these guys would sell you his bike if you offered him $20,000. Go figure!

I have a 400ex and a banshee...about the only place the 400ex will go that the banshee won't is the snow. Of course the 400ex still does not like more than 6 inches or so.

I really disagree with the maintenance part too. My banshee has been bullet proof since 96. I changed the pistons once. That's normal.

Maybe I'm just used to the banshee, but I'm so sick of hearing about frame geometry this and that...suspension this....trails that. It's all good. Trust me....the 400ex is a great reliable bike...But so is the banshee. As far as power goes...well, the stock 400ex has something to be desired. A stock banshee rips right out of the box.

About the only thing I really like about the 400ex is the easy of riding wheelies and it is very very quiet. No mad neighbors.

I like both machines...but don't discount the banshee until you have had some saddle time on one. There are no dunes anywhere near me...and my dealer sells out of banshees as fast as 400's.

It is a hard choice for sure...go with your gut.

I love them both! i would have the 400ex they are in destructible!!!!!
The banshee is really fast. Both bikes are good machines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

i have ridden my ex in the snow in back yard (10 acers) in the winter lots of fun most places wont let you ride atv in winter though and it goes good through the mud my bro was driveing it through water holes 2-3 feet deep and in mud i also think 400ex is faster than banshee "but" banshee has the hole shot and goes around 55-60 while ex is 60-65 but the ex is by far the best machine if you are going to go out turn the key on and ride dentally better than banshee for trail riding hills depends on what kind of hills if its a 70ft hill i would defiantly a banshee but thats really all i would rather have a banshee for besides dunes

(ex can go around 35-40 miles on a tank of gas)
