I just got back from Florence, Oregon a couple weeks ago. While I was down there I did some drag racing. I raced a total of 10 Raptors mostly all piped, all on video. Everytime I was at the top way before them. What I don't understand is they have a 660, mine is only a 426, that's over a 200cc difference. I know I have some motor work, but not enough to over power 200cc's. Shouldn't they be beating me?

Naw yours is a Honda
No really i guess the reason is becuase of a more radical cam, porting, etc. Its the same reason as a 330ex can beat a stock 400ex.

Ummmm....well, its 10% bike, 90% rider! All of the guys on the raptors was probably some poor riders! I went to a drag strip one time and a stock 400ex beat a stock raptor at 72-74mph. Then they run it again and it was about the same. So the rider on the raptor must not be that good of a rider. Like this for example: You put a pro rider on a 300EX and a stupid rider on a Raptor, which do you think will win? Well the guy on the 300EX of course. Its all mostly the rider, not the bike. Get my drift?

Well I would have to agree with bermbanger and say that jeffman kinda knows somewhat , waht he is talking about but not really. It is beleavable that your 416 can beat a 660 because like bermbanger said it's a honda , also your racing a yamaha which the second gear blows out in under a year so you can tell that they are VERY high quality. It is NOT always all rider because I really highly doubt that LDJ raced 10 crappy riders. If you own a raptor I should really hope that you know how to shift it and hold it wide open , if not you should get an LT80. Thats my $.02

ALSO JEFFMAN where did you see stock 400exs going 74mph ? , maybe the back of someones pickup?

jeffman Aug 20, 2001 06:59 PM

well it might have been 64-62mph. But you know, it is possible that a 400ex could go about 74, IF you hold it wide open. Gosh dude you don't have to be a smartass about it! And you do know that LDJ could be streatching the truth a bit and over exaggerating. Surely to god that one of those riders are alot better than him and would have smoked him. But you never know...I still stand beside my point, 10% bike, 90% rider!

lonestarbanshee Aug 20, 2001 08:42 PM

Im going to disagree with your rider percentages.. But, yes, you are right about your whole "point". I think that it's about 70% rider, and 30% quad. Can an LT80 Beat a Raptor? If Tim Farr was on the LT80, and Jack Doe was on the Raptor... Could Tim Farr win??? I think not. Even if the 2nd gear blew out, the Raptor would still win..

Yes, I think that a 426EX will beat a Raptor... With equal riders.

The rider does make a difference, but it doesnt take all that much skill to drag race quads or trikes. The only real hard part is coming off the start and the rest of the race is pretty much cake. I think its more like 50/50 bike and rider, in a drag race anyway. On a track its different, there it has alot to do with the rider. There i would probobly say 70% rider, 30% bike. But as long as the rider knows how to come off the start and use a clutch then the rest is pretty much power. And LDJ never said how far the race was either. Maybe it was a short race and he was able to hold the Raptors off that long. Then again, maybe hes faster all together, its not impossible.

KILLER250R Aug 21, 2001 12:56 AM

I wasn't being a smarta$$ I was just pointing out that what you were saying was wrong. ALSO I don't care how long you hold it wide open it's not going any faster because the people who test them hold them open til they hit the rev limiter and ounce you do that your all done , as in not going any faster. Maybe you have some sort of super 400ex that will hit 74 by holding it wide open but I really doubt it.

LDJ how long was the drag??

LDJ Aug 21, 2001 01:06 AM

The hill is the parking lot one in Florence. It is probably 100 yards. I am not strething the truth at all, They all came up to me afterwards and asked what I had in mine. They all traveled together in the same two trucks and trailers. They seemed to be okay riders. Hey, I was getting killed all day long by a full race 440.

FOURWHLS Aug 21, 2001 07:28 AM

I ride a 416, and I have come to the conclusion that Raptors taste like chicken.
