I know the plastics will change over, and the swingarm on the 86 is either one inch longer or shorter, i can't remember. The a-arms are one inch further forward on one of them but im' not sure which one.

86-87 Steel swingarms
88-89 -1 inch aluminum swingarms
86-87 A-arms regular
88-89 +1 inch forward A-arms

The swingarms I don;t think are interchangeable, the A-arms are interchangeable. Almost everything is interchangable on them.

The swing arm is interchangeable, just like everything else.

The top ends are interchangable but the piston and cranks need to be the same year.

86 crank = 86 piston
87-89 crank = 87-89 piston
or 87-89 crank with 86 piston but must use spacer plate.

You can make any of it work.

the 88 swingarm will NOT fit on an 86 frame, unless you don't want to run the rear engine mount, as the rear swingarm mount on an 86 acts as an engine mount too.

yes you can
