Airtime, why does it take a "Pro" to let off the gas, and shift it without the clutch w/o banging gears??? That dont make no sence to me, how can you get on your 4-wheeler and do it and I do the exact same thing and it yours dont do anything?? I may not be a pro at riding, but im smart enough to know to use my common sence and use a clutch, any idiot would know to use the clutch when shifting.

....good luck with finding cheap gears and clutches in the future...!

jeffman. Why don't you get off everyone's @$$ and open your eyes.

Seems to me you don't know many differences between an auto. clutch and a manual clutch ATV. Until you get a manual for each and study upon the differences of how the auto clutch and manual clutch differ, I would lay off the name calling.

I suppose you would tell everyone with an auto. clutch to hold their shifter all the way up momentarily and give it gas before releasing it, wouldn't you??

As far as shifting without a clutch causing damage to the gears is hog wash unless you are short shifting it. As far as clutch wear is concerned, a clutch is going to wear whether you pull the clutch lever or not. Especially on a race quad.

Maybe you should attend a few TT races this year and shout right before the start that they are all idiots.

jeffman, if you want to use the clutch when you shift please do, but don't miss lead people by saying you have too. if you do not know, then be man enough to just say you do not know. maybe you need to listen more instead of speaking. also, the line "it dont make no sense to me" is also wrong. you should say "it doesn't make ANY sense to me". as bad as you need to practice your four wheeler riding, i would suggest working on your english a little. i see that you are riding a 2001 400 ex. i hope that is not your first ride with a clutch. airtime

Yes, the clutch is on the left side. When you pull in the clutch to shift, let off the gas and when you let off of the clutch give it more gas. You will just have to get out there and ride to tell how much gas to give it at certain points. We can't explain everything for ya man, sorry.

my first motorized vehicle i rode (besides the tame go carts in the wiscsonsin dells) was my LT250. yeah i was pretty damn scared. i remember telling my dad i was never going to take it out of second gear! lol! my friends always wondered why i was crazy on a quad (i don't think i am but they do i guess) until they found out that my first thing ever was the good ol quadracer.

Well for one thing I am pretty good at English and im pretty good at riding too. Its just when im typing on the Internet, (forums), I dont really care how I say it, as long as it makes sence enough for the other person to read it. Besides, you dont even know my riding skills! Ever seen me ride? No. And I have never seen you ride? No. so I cant judge you by your riding skills. And Yes, if you would "listen" and pay attention, I already put in a earlier post that my 400ex IS my first clutch driven quad. And im doing REALLY good with it!

I try my best to be friends with everyone on this forum board. I have nothing against any of you. I call peeps names sometimes, but thats just b/c I get Peed off when people dont know what their talking about, (who knows, I may not know what im talking about sometimes), but thats what these forums are for, right? To ask questions and learn stuff and to just chat with other fellow ATVer's in the world. But if you guys would like for me to leave, I can do so.....

first of all jeffman, no one wants you to leave. we all have different opinions about things. my opinion is that it is ok to shift gears without using the clutch. your opinion however is different from mine and that's ok because in this country you are able to make your own decisions. one more thing jeffman, the next time you are riding your 400ex, how about trying to shift into a higher gear without using your clutch. like from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. if it does not shift smoothly, do not force it or you will hear that gear banging noise you told everybody about. if you do not feel comfortable attempting this then i would suggest using your clutch. i have been riding my honda 250r since 1998 and have never had a clutch failure. i hardly ever use it while on a track, down shifting or up shifting. i have ridden my 250r with the same clutch for three years without having to replace it. also, a parting tip: in the phrase "it doesn't make any sence to me" sense is spelled with an "s" not a "c". airtime

Hehe, like me grammer in that won???

Ps. I meant to mis-spell things in this post just in case your wondering. Im in English 10 and I done pretty well in my past English classes. lol
