After reading all this I just got all excited and went out and checked my battery in the Recon. I turned the key to see the green, Its alive, Its still alive.

I would think a recon would be a okay size for you.

The reason folks are mentioning the Recon is that the 250ex is basically the same bike but differently configured. The drive train and engine are exactly the same starting this year. The EX loses about 50 LBS and the racks. If a Recon is good then the ex would be better, in short. Buy what you like and liek what you buy. I love my recon, it will do everything I want to do including hauling a deer out of the woods or some light jumping. I ride it almost every day. I almost bought a Rancher but the extra weight didn't appeal to me.

Don't for get about the Lakota bwarndog. It has more power, better suspension, and is faster. Just another machine you may want to add to your list.

the 250ex is a great choice but i'd go with somethin a little bigger maybe like a lakota or 300ex. but the 250ex is a great quad and should be good you just might want a little bit more power
