How do you get the most cash for your used atv?
#1
What do you all think is the best way to get top dollar for a modified atv? I have a 2000 400EX with lots of aftermarket parts in it- would I be better off putting it back to stock then selling the atv and aftermarket parts individually?

I would think you could get more out of it having a stock appearing machine. If it looks like it has been run hard with all the modifications I think your prospective buyer will walk.
As is $3500
Stock appearing hope for $4500
First person saying $4000 I would get there cash as fast as you can.

I'm leaning towards putting it back to stock. If I do, I'll advertise the parts in the classified section of ATV Connection.
I'm thinking of getting either a Suzuki Z400 or Cannondale Speed. I really want the Speed but I'd have to get about $6500 out of my used 400EX to justify buying it. If I part out the aftermarket parts, maybe I can reach that figure.

RubyRed,
The Elka shocks are great. Of all the modification that I've done that was the most satisfying. In fact, if I go with the Suzuki Z400 I may want to put those shock on it. I believe that the Z400 is equipped with the same Showa shocks that the 400EX has. If so the Elkas should be interchangable.
The Elka shocks are equal to the Axis shocks in my opinion. I saw an advertisement for a new "Elite" series of Elkas that have external adjustments for both high and low speed damping. They are also available with titanium plating on the 5/8" shafts. I think that Ohlin shocks only have 1/2" shafts. Pricewise, they are hundreds less than the Axis shocks.

Yup, you'll want to put it back to stock and sell your mods if you want to get a lot of money out of it. Otherwise there is no way you can get more for it than a brand new one sells for unless you have it set up as the ultimate MX quad and you can find someone that needs one set up to race with. Even then it would probably be hard.
Good luck with it.
