here's the scenerio:
my quad: 2000 400EX, basically stock with the spark arrestor screen removed, a K&N air filter, and an up-sized main jet. I weigh about 200lbs., running 93 octane, recently had a complete tune-up, including: valves adjusted, clutch adjsted, air filter cleaned, carb cleaned, new spark plug, oil & filter changed, etc. the other quad: 2001 400EX, stock with (supposedly) only the endcap removed, he probably weighed about 150 lbs. We raced 3 different times down a blacktop road, from rolling starts in 2nd gear; each race was the same... he would pull away about a bike length in each gear... it seemed. What do you all make of this, why am I getting beat so bad? is he lying about the mods to his quad or does 50lbs. make that much of a difference? haha... I didn't get a chance to look at his 400, we just ran into these guys and he wanted to race, afterwards he was gone. |
I dont know anything about nos, or upgrades, but is it possible he could have a small amount of nos in his machine? Stock? 50lbs is a lotta pounds... It should make a huge difference, but i guess it did.

The weight makes a difference. As for being beaten bad like you said, one bike length is nothing. Thats not even 1 mph faster. If you want to beat him I would suggest getting a 1tooth + front sprocket. Your machine could definitly handle it and your will get a 1-3 mph boost.

Weight makes alot of differences. My friend has a new 400 scrambler and my dad has a new 400 scrambler. Both have KN filters and we raced on a black top road and I weigh 170 pounds and he weighs 135 pounds and he can beat me by 1 bike length everytime.
