need help with recon air filter
#1
Well for starters there is oil in my air box and i can't get the airfilter off. I've taken out all the screws but it will not move, is there a secret. Why is there oil in the air box and in the manual it says to coat the filter with oil but it doesnt say how to or what kind of oil. Please help.

Your filter should pop right off. There's no secret. And there shouldn't be oil in the airbox. Clean it out real good. Go to your dealer and pick up some Pro Honda foam filter oil. Clean your filter with mild soap and warm water. Let it air dry. Don't ring it out. This can tear the filter. When it's dry put it in a ziploc bag and add enough oil to saturate the filter when worked around. Disposable gloves are handy here. Squeeze out excess oil. Don't worry, you can't squeeze out too much. Reassemble and you're good to go.

Well actually the oil in the airbox kinda does belong there. You see your transmission vent line runs from the tranny into your airbox. When your riding around some oil can come up through the vent and into the airbox.
As for the filter oil you don't need Honda oil, usualy anything from them is just overprised. You can get any brand of foam filter oil and it will work fine. You can buy it in a spray can and just spray it on the filter instead of usuing a bag.
For taking off the filter just losen the hose clamp and pull it off. It might come off alittle hard because of the metal peice inside the filter.

I wouldn't bother with just a filter alone. You won't notice much of a difference. If you were to make the quarter sized whole in the snorkel bigger then you added a filter and rejet you would notice more. If you added a pipe at the same time with proper jetting you will have a pretty good increase in power. Good Luck.
