Hi folks. I'm not an ATV rider (yet) but my son is. He has a 1985 TRX 125 that he inherited from his great uncle.

Anyway, my question is about the rims. The rear are 2-piece split rims. He needs new tires and I want something better than the stock Honda tires, so what will work on these rims?

Anything special I should know?

Tube or tubeless?

Is it possible to replace these with 1-piece rims?

I called the local Honda dealer and they can't even tell me the bolt pattern, but I think its 4x130. Can anyone confirm that?

Thanks in advance for any help or answers.

Hi Cory, welcome to the forum.

You are correct on the bolt pattern.

One piece wheels are available and will work with no problem at all. You can get them for about 30.00 each.

Stick with a tire similar to stock. That machine had no rear suspension, so the tires WAS the suspension. Don't go with a "flat" profile tire. The Kenda Scorpions work well on all machines without rear suspension.

Stay away from the tubes. No need for one unless you have tires with cracks and holes but with good tread. They are to much of a pain to repair when you get a flat.

If you plan to use the two piece wheel design, replace the o-ring with a new one and apply a thin bead of silicone between the two wheel halfs. The o-rings are about 10.00 each, so you might just want to splurge for the one piece wheels.
