400EX bottoming out on jumps, what should I do?
#1
I weight 150 lbs and have a 01 400ex. I have pushed the front preload up all the way and still bottom out trying to clear the 25 ft tabletops. I land flat alot of the time from about 6-7 ft up. I can handle it easy but im worried about the quad. Would works dual rate fronts help alot or do I need a stronger swingarm? What to do....

You need to land a little more on the rear tires first. If you are landing on all four, most of the weight is actually coming down on the front first due to the momentum. If you are traveling 25-30 feet in the air, you have time to assess how you will land and make an adjustment in the air. Try moving your body weight a little more towards the back and pull up on the bars. You can try giving it throttle but that never works to well for me on a 400ex.
Any shock other than the factory ones will help in the front. You should also make sure the rear one is setup properly. If you have the money, triple rates are nice especially for your weight. For people over 200 lbs, triple rates really don't work too well.
Are you near DeRisi in North Carolina? They have a test track onsite. They will rebuild the rear shock for your weight and ability, sell you front ones, and dial them in for you.

They rebuilt a blown rear shock for my girlfriend's 400ex. Set it up for a 120 lb rider. Her bike is like a caddy when I ride it. I can't jump it though since I weigh about 190 lbs.
You can almost land on all four tires at once. Just make sure the rears come down first though.
Are you sure your front shocks are still working? You shouldn't be bottoming out at your weight on a tabletop jump. If you push down on the front end, does it slowly come back up or bounce right back up?
