I was putting on my Dad's Warn Winch today and I got it all bolted up (pain in the A$$). So now I am getting ready to run the wires and mount the solenoid. I thought about putting it in the storage box in the back I also have seen were it is mount right above the exhaust. I didn't care for the way that looked so I thought about the side opposite the exhaust pipe but didn't know if it was out to much in the elements.

I also talk to a guy that wired his winch up directly to the battery not even using the solenoid. What would happen if I did that? Long and short term effects?

Also let me know if you can describe it where you ran your wires to keep them hidden. That might be hard to explain though so if you have pictures let me know.

Thanks in advance,
jcsact

The best place to put the solenoid is to take off the left side cover(black) at the fuel tank. Towards the front of the machine you find a flat spot that is perfect to place the solenoid. This is a great spot I have put at least 10 there. It is also good because if there is a failure with the solenoid it is mounted to plastic and cannot cause a short.

Douglasss,
Thanks anyway I had already mounted the solenoid when I received your message. I put it in the storage box. I was still able to get the tool pack in and out so I thought what the heck. Put a little silicone around the holes so I hope it stays dry in there. I put some pictures on my web page of the mounting if you would like see.
