I dont have a recon, but with my XR'200R there is a screen right behind the drian plug. I just rince it in paint thinner to clean it. If the screen is behind the clutch cover, like it is on my TRX200SX I would just froget about it! I have never found metal in one.

I ask a Honda mechanic friend of mine and he said you don't ever do anything to the screen unless you get into tearing the motor down, etc. Just change the oil and go on.

Hey, I just picked up a 2000 Recon for my son. How much oil does the recon hold when refilling during an oil change? Is there a filter to change?

Thanks.

Read your manual for the capacity, but I can tell you there is no oil filter.

I asked my dealer to service the internal oil screen but he discouraged me from doing it because he didn't feel it was necessary and didn't have the gasket needed to do the job at the time. The old 200 Honda's also had a screen and I don't think that cleaning the screen is something that anyone does. Did look at the Dealer Service Manual for the procedure and it involves pulling the front cover off the engine to access the screen. Sounds like there is also a centrifical device in there also. On my Recon, I just changed the oil on a regular basis.

If you go to the microfiche parts finder for the Recon, Crankcase, at the website for troy-racing.com you can see where the oil screen is located. The parts diagram shows both an oil screen and an oil strainer. Maybe this is one of those things that we should have went by the service recommendations in the Owners Manual.

Ok, I will try the question again. I don't have an owners manual yet, that is why I asked what the oil capacity was for the recon. I just assumed someone would know off the top of their head. Oh, well,I guess I will have to pick up a manual to find out.

BFUNGUS,
When I get home from work, I'll look in my wife's manual.
I'll post what I find out, if someone hasn't already.
