HOW DO ALL OF YOU GUYS USE YOUR TRANNY FOR EVERYDAY RIDING? DO YOU USE D1 OR D2? I HAVE HEARD ALOT OF CONFLICTING REPORTS. I USE D1, BUT WAS TOLD BY SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT D2 WAS FASTER AND FOR NORMAL RIDING. I THOUGHT D1 WAS EVERYDAY NORMAL RIDING (WHEN NOT USING ESP) AND THAT D2 WAS FOR LOW TORQUE AND PULLING THINGS. MAYBE I WAS WRONG?

your right, D1 is for fast responce and power, D2 is for slow rideing and pulling trailers. I use both equaly, and esp when i want to glide down hills in 5th

Hello,
I was wondering if you know where the VIN numbers may be on your unit?
I just got a 01 Rubicon and can't seem to find the VIN numbers, are there any on yours? how about engine numbers? any help would be great, also what kind of oil do you guys use? so far D1 has worked excellent for me as well.

THE BEST WAY TO FIND YOUR VIN IS TO TAKE THAT TOP COVER OFF YOUR FRONT FENDER --GET A MAG LIGHT AND LOOK STRAIGHT DOWN IN FRONT OF THE RADIATOR--PRESTO --VIN NUMBER---D1/D2--HONDA WILL TELL YOU NOT TO EVEN USE D2--IT'S FOR LIKE BUZZIN DOWN A LONG ROAD TO GET BEER AND DEFINALTY NOT FOR PULLING ANYTHING---THE SHIFT POINTS ARE TOO FAR APART AND IT DOWNSHIFTS TOOO SLOW---NOT GOOD ON A HYDRASTAT TYPE TRANS AND THOSE THINGS ARE ABOUT 1400.00 NOW--PRICE JUST WENT UP --THEY HAVE SAID THE OWNERS MANUEL WILL EVENTUALLY BE MODIFIED TO INFORM OWNERS???

Never use high to pull anything. Low is what you need to do when power is needed.

By the way the Hondamatic is NOT $1400. Yes the price did go up, but only by $100. Its now $863.84 (26000-HN2-010) from servicehonda.com. If you dealer tries to charge you $1400....find a new dealer.

I use D1 more in the hills and when in the more flat areas I use D2 but I sometimes I use it in the mountains to, and they both pull my 27 inch Tri and Bi Claws very well. D2 is also more quiet than D1 because its in a higher gear most of the time and the motors rpm's are lower. Both drive modes very work well so I think its mainly preferance. I have had no tranny trouble and have 2,650 miles in one year and three months.

I ride in the mountianburg area around cederville to silverbridge up to devils den. I use mostly D2 it seems like D1 stays in the same gear to long before shfting to the next. Can you tell any fuel milage difference in D! or D2 on longer rides I worry if i have enough fuel to get back on this fuel eater.
