Trading in my 300 four trx for a Rancher or Foreman.
I went today to trade in my 300 for a new Rancher or Foreman. My 300 is a 94 model and looks
and runs good. It has always done anything I needed it to do. When getting it ready to go
I started second guessing it. I have become attached to this 300 and didn't really know it.
When I got to the store the sales person was taking me through the deal and I simply asked
how does these new ones stack up against the 300? They replied to me, " They won't touch
your 300. They replied that those 300's are like tanks! They also said that they have a 300 a
and wouldn't take anything for it. I thought that they had to be telling me the truth because
they were loosing a sale by telling me this that they make commission from. I decided after
my apprehensiveness and then this information that I should keep my 300 which I am satisfied
with and I walked. I have so much peace about the decision and glad to pull my 300 back in
to the garage. It was like seeing your favorite old dog that you have had and never would part
with. Just thought I would share this. What do you all think about this? Is the 300's that tough
really?

They are subsecptable to the same wear and tear as any other quad,.....but do hold up longer than the others. The ones that do have trouble have seen better days.
Honda has not duplicated the sucess of the 300's reliability since they dropped them in 2000.
I see many customers every day who sound just like you and I don't blame them one bit.
If you happy with the 300's power right now, there is no need to upgrade.

The Honda 300 is an atv with a bulletproof motor and it is always nice to have one around. Hy dads 400 Foreman with the exeption of the front bash plate is another solid bike. My dad baught his new in 95' and has not had anything go wrong with it, it has never burned or leaked any oil and still runs like it is new even though it does not look it. The shocks are going south but the bike probably has 12,000 miles on it or more. Though niether of there bikes are sporty they will run the trails as good as most and will last longer.

If I was thinking of buying a new Rancher, I would wait until spring and look at the new 400 auto Rancher. It looks to be a great ATV. The same size and weight, bigger engine (a completely new engine), Rubicon Hondamatic trans, and selectable 4wd. I think this is going to be one hot ATV.

I agree with 2 things:
1. It's hard to be humble when you have a TRX 300. I am amused to listen some owners of other brands talk about how important it is to get hooked up with a good dealer (aka repair shop). 5 years of combined use and my 2 Hondas and neither has ever been been back to the dealer. No sign they will need to anytime soon.
2. The Rancher 400 looks sweet.

I own a 99' 300 4x4 and my wife has a '01 Rancher 4x4. Both she and I prefer to ride the 300. It is truly a great machine, rough ride and all. I am going to buy new in the spring, probably a Rincon, but the 300 will definitely stick around and I have had more than a few offers for it. Good quading!
