03 Rancher
#1
I am more than like going to get a new rancher ( if i dont wait till the new one comes out which I just may do!!) I was wondering if anyones knows the top speed of the 2003 rancher 4x4? I love the new Rincon but I dont know if it is wise to put that kind of money into an atv. Also if, anyone has any information on the new rancher 400 AT thats coming out this would be helpful to. Thanks in advance!

I just bought one, two and a half weeks ago, and I've put 400 miles on it. I have ridden in many different types of terrain, and even though a lot of people say it's top speed is 51 or 52 Mph, I have only been able to get there once, going downhill with a tail wind. I am 5'11" and 235lbs.
On a flat dirt/sand road, wide open, I would guess I was averaging 45mph. I think, for speed, it suffers from low gearing that could be cured with a bit larger tire. The first two gears are really for utility type stuff, and third doesn't get you much past 20mph. I should also point out that there are very few places where I ride where going over thirty is even an option. Especially with the way trails get crowded on the weekends around here. It just isn't safe to come flying around some of these corners when the trails are so narrow.
I am not in any way, shape, or form saying that I haven't had the best time in a long time over the last two and a half weeks, but if you are looking for speed, you may want to look at something bigger, or even look at a sport Quad.
I have only gotten it stuck twice, and both times the water and sand I was in was pretty deep, (decieving puddles that some one before me had left very deep holes in) and I am still running the stock tires. I managed to muscle it out both times all by myself, as I was riding alone.
I am considering a winch.

Hey,
I asked the forum the same question. Most said go witht he manual. I know several people who have the elect shift, and with no problems. To me, its just another tihing to go wrong. Personally, you cant hold a beer in your left hand and use the elect. shift at the same time. More reason to get the foot manual shift...hehehehehh I say, go with manual foot shift.

i would also look into the polaris if you want to, my scrambler will kill a rancher and it has way better suspension and the 4x4 works great, but my friend has a rancher and there a good quad if you like riding kinda slow and if you like doing alittle work around the house on it

I just bought a 2003 Honda 350 Fourtrax 4x4 Es. I had it for two days now,and I have not been on it due to rain. But I have ridin it the night I unloaded it of the truck. It runs good I love it, and look forward to alot of ridin this weekend. I am very happy

hannahj, I am glad that the 500 scrambler can blow away a 350 rancher if it didn't beat it then something is wrong cause it does have 150+cc advantage. The manual shift ranchers are nice bikes, I have not seen many electic shift bikes but I'm sure that they hold up well also.

I have two ..........2wd ranchers and they are great. The 2wd ranchers are are a blast to ride .............alot more fun then they 4wd. The reason being is that the front end is lighter to wheelie and they will spin circles with little effort. I had a 01 wolverine and it was a great bike but the ranchers are just more fun. With good tires the ranchers will hang with most atvs..............I'am not saying they will go through some killer mud holes like some of these big Quads with 4wd, but they will hold there own in some rough places. The 2wd rancher is a great midsize reliable Quad .
