A good tire that does well in mud and on the trails is the surtrac tire or the spidertrac's. My bearclaws are good but just a little agressive at times. I have to be careful where I do a donut or I could be laying on my side, but they do slide around on the trails good and do good in the mud.

The 20's will give you more bottom end but you will wind out at a slower speed in high gear, have less ground clearance, drag the bottom over more rocks and obstacles,a greater chance of getting high centered because the frame will be lower, and get stuck easy in the mud. If you do not see any of the things that I have mentioned a problem then go ahead and get smaller tires.

when i had my 250ex a year ago, i put maxxis raz r 4 ply tires on it and i performed well in both wet and dry conditions, and they are also alot lighter than most agressive tire designs (spider trak, sur-trak) good luck towards you purchase

thanks guys for the info. where i ride at i don't have to worry about bottoming out on rocks and logs, just the mud holes. theres just alot of hills to go up and down not real steep though.
