I'd go with a k&n with outerwear and the lid off. As for tires 18" would be good, that bike doesnt have a whole lot of horsepower so the smaller the tire you get the better.

14MINS-if you really want to make the 250ex perform ,well that is perform as well as a 250 ex can then i would suggest going with the powroll big bore kit and pipe and header they make for it .if you look on the powroll website you will see a 250 ex and that was my wifes quad that they did a R&D project on. that thing really hauled for a mild mannered 250 and it felt like it had a 30 to 40 percent gain in overall power and performance when they were done with it.call powroll and ask to talk to (TOM WALTON)he is the general manager and ask him about the 250 .the guys in the shop at powroll were impressed with the gains they got out of such a small motor and they had a blast riding that quad.while you are talking to tom ask him about the 770 kit for the raptor and how it performs i think you will find that these guys are about as good at building four stroke motors as any one and the knowledge they have is incredible.it sounds like if you are willing to spend the money on all the parts needed to make the 770 work reliably you would have a raptor that if geared correctly would be hard to beat.when i say all the parts for the 770 i mean valves and springs /carbs /rods/cam and all the other parts that will be stressed with the extra horsepower.

I'd just upsize the main jet.... trim both ends of the snorkel... and remove the quiet core and spark arrestor...
and oh-yeah.... put 400EX rear tires on it, and reverse the front rims for better handling! that's what I've done to my wife's 250EX |

I got my wife one of the first 250ex's and have been thru alot with it.
1. Put razors on the front and rear, kept the stock size in the front and put 20x11x9 on the rear. I would not go any smaller on the rear seeing as it hits the rev limiter really quick now 2. I put a White Brothers E-series exhaust on it. 3. K&N air filter and prefilter. 4. Wasted 50 bucks on the jetkit seeing as when it first came out the needle was way too short and always fed too much fuel. I think that they finally figured out what they did and are replacing the needles with the correct ones now. But I kept the OE needle in it. 5. We do a lot of riding around mud and water so I left the lid on and put 6 UNI filters in the lid. She wanted some bark busters, nerf bars, bumpers and slid plates so Santa got those for her in 2001. At the time the only nerfs that you could get was from DG, not too impressed with them but she likes them . My biggest concern was for the differential, if it gets hit hard and gets a hole in it then lets just say she won't be a happy camper, so the skid plates are highly recomended. Now I want to put the bigger piston in it for her, just so she has a little more power, she likes it the way it is but hey we all want more. As for how much oil it holds, on a drain it will take about 1.7 qts. Now on the back of the engine right infront of the swing arm there is a plug that you can take out and drain the oil, its a lot easier to jack up the front end and pull this plug when you have a full skid plate. Anything else let me know got the factory repair manual with ours too. Already sent some atv members carb pics and other info that they needed. |

I learned this right here on the forums. I know for almost 2 years I was dumping the oil from the plug under the motor. What I usually do is take the bolt out after a ride and let it sit all night to drain out. What happens after most of the oil is out is the drip flows to the side and then down on to the skid plate. Mine looked like a mess under there but it always had fresh oil in it. I would use the back bolt and jack the front end up for less mess. The oil was the ChetRacer blend. 10w40 + synthetic. All most 400 hours still looks like new inside. |
