Default Question for Newbie!

Howdy everyone, I haven't decided on which ATV I want so I am still in the "looking" stage. The Honda 400EX in one of at the top of my list.

Can it be started in gear?

If you do a comparisson on the Suzuki webpage, Suzuki says the Honda can not be started if in gear, but one dealer told me it could.

Another question.... do you think not having reverse is a REAL problem? Many say get the Suzuki 400 as it has reverse AND the liquid cooled engine. Can I get some feedback on this?

Thanks for any info.

Default Question for Newbie!

well i love honda 2-strokes and thats it! honda 4stroke atvs i think suck in performance asspect. but they are very reliable. so buy a suzuki z400 becuase they whip a 400ex stock vs stock like no tomorrow.
but if you dont wheigh a lot and want to save some cash maybe you should start out on a honda 200x, i know i said i hated honda four strokes but the 200x was my first bike and it was very reliable. and then after you get used to either 200x or 400ex or z400 get a banshee frame and a CR500 engion and that will be a wild ride, thats what im building.

Default Question for Newbie!

why i hate the 400ex is because its an engion strait out the 80s produced in the 90s, and my dads 1983 atc250r can whip the hell out our friends 400ex. i rode that 400ex and it seemed like it had a lack of power.

Default Question for Newbie!

Reverse is not a problem! My thoughts are:"if you go fast enough foreward, you don't need reverse"
Plus it adds weight!
So does electric start! IMHO, neither of these belong on a race quad... but then again... they don't make race quads anymore with the exception of the Banshee.

My advice... buy a Banshee and modify the daylights out of it! They run really good!

But it really depends on what you'll be using it for! Nothing wrong with the new 'thumpers' as far as sport quads go..

Might also look pretty hard at the new polaris... just a thought
I'd also look at the Raptor... there's no replacement for displacement.. and they run fairly good.

Do your homework, and ride a few of these before you buy.... Beg/borrow/steal a ride so you can make up your mind and not be disappointed in the end.

Hope this helps! Welcome to the Forums!

Default Question for Newbie!

The Z400 has two more HP stock than a 400EX. The speed at which you can ride the EX due to the superior handling it has over the Z will more than make up for it.

I've needed reverse twice in the year that I've had my EX.

Ride all of the quads on your wish list, read all you can find about them, and decide which one fills your needs the best. You won't find THE perfect quad, but you will find one that should keep you happy.

Default Question for Newbie!

i was lucky enough to get a special 400ex..........
every brand produces them....
the odd ball of the group.........

it outruns any other stock 400ex i've ran.........
i've ran about ten of them........

i've ran 2 stock Z's and bearlly beat them both..........by a half quad length

i just installed my new pipe today and cant wait to see what it does now.........
