Hunting season?
#11
I guess we're pretty lucky out here. The place I elk hunt forms a natural draw through the mountains that the elk are forced to run through, on their way down the valley. They have a elk feeding station some 30-40 miles down the valley from where I hunt, and the elk all migrate down there for the winter season as they are fed hay all winter. Don't get me wrong, it's still a real challenging hunt and you're lucky to actually get something, but there are a lot of animals in the area. It's a big *** area though. I'm glad I got my 'Cats, as I used to walk just barely over 10 miles in one way from camp to where I hunt. Took several hours in the bad weather and would have been at least an all day ordeal to pull something out of there.
Up on our property we're over run with black bear right now. The state says that in that particular area, there are over 15 black bear per square mile! That's absolutely unreal. They are so thick that they've been breaking into our cabin lately and trashing the place. One of them killed my cousins puppies here not too long ago, then shredded his grandkids two tents later that night. Luckily they were sleeping in the cabin. We had to have that one disposed of as he was getting a little too friendly. I saw three others from a short distance last week while building fence. It's pretty cool to be up there riding your atv's around, mending fences over a 1,200 acre area and seeing all the animals and bears up so close. Normally they'll just sit there and watch you, thinking they're hiding in the brush. They usually don't get too close, but I do carry a side-arm just in case. Even had a bobcat cross the road just in front of me. Stopped in the middle of the road and looked at me for a second, wondering what in the world I was, then took off into the thicker cover. Pretty cool!
Can't wait till mid October, it's getting close!!!
