Default carb experts HELP!

I recently attempted to begin doing my own jetting and ran into several problems, one of which required my dealer to drill through the carb body into the coolant area to put a nut on to hold the float bowl screw in place (I tried using hex head bolt, that was slightly longer than factory, and broke off the tab inside the carb body)

anyway after this $250 nightmare (all labor) they put my jets back to what the were originally, but tell me it will now be very cold blooded since i dont have coolant warming the carbs in cold weather. No big deal, but when i try it out it runs like crap.

It runs best with the choke almost in the full "choke" position, and even after 30 mins it wont idle, making me thing too much air.

but when you turn the choke off it runs like crap in the idle to 1/4 throttle zone, even holding the throttle steady produces sputtering and major stumble, making me think not enough air.

so you carb geniuses can calculate it i am running

twin air filter
dg snorkle
hmf half pipe
dj 134f 138r (note these jets worked great before the float bowl screw disaster, but since my plugs always seemed black i thought i may be slightly rich and was adjusting them 1 size down, after the $250 bill i am definitely not rich

as always I am sure the answer is out there, I even had the dealer asking me about a problem he is having with another praire's instrument display panel since I have solved 2 or three other problems he had from info I had gotten here on the forums.

thanks in advance for any help.

Wow! You've got problems! It sounds to me like you've got a vacuum leak, since it won't idle, and it needs choke to do so. You said they drilled into the coolant area? Did they JB Weld up that area so It didn't get coolant anymore? Doesn't make sense to me, but it really sounds like you need a new carb, at least a carb body.

thanks custom, I think you are right about the vacuum leak, I am in the process of relocating to NJ right now so I dont have the time to tinker or the riding area to test it, but once I do, I will probably end up just getting a new carb. Did I mention the carbs are $400 a piece. Thats new, I am hoping to find some used carbs of a totaled prairie, I know i have seen several guys on this forum alone who have wrecked their machines pretty badly. I hate to use someone elses misfortune to my benefit but I guess its like the circle of life, some must die that others can live, (me being the one living that is)
p.s. if I paid $250 for the dealer to leave a vacuum hose off, I am gonna be pissed!

The vacuum leak may have been caused by something they did to the carb body, did you look on E-BAY?
