Default 20 hr service?

i just bought a new kfx 400, and they said that i HAVE to bring it in for a 20 hr sevice. is this true? they said i have to because if something breaks, then kawasaki manufactor will see that i am taking care of the quad and then warranty stuff easier. so, is it neccesary for me to have them change my oil, tighten chain, etc....all for 169.99$ american!?

They are B.S.ing you. You can do the work yourself. BE SURE to use Kaw. approved parts and oil and KEEP THE RECEIPTS! I like buying the parts from the dealer, while the bike is under warranty, just so I can prove that I was using the factory approved parts.
Still skeptical? Email/phone Kaw. Customer Service.

Sounds like the dealer may be putting it to you a bit. I do 90% of my own servicing on my bikes and quads and my dealer knows it. I've never had any warranty probs but my dealer is great. One thing I do do, is for those first couple of "important" services, I buy all my oil and filters from the dealer. It may cost a bit more, but then they have a record of you buying maintence items even though they didn't perform the maintence.
