Twist Throttle for P650/P700
MIKEY... I got you on another forum, but will post for the benifit of the others... I've had a twist throttle on mine for the last 8-9 months, raced a few hare scrambles & an Ice race with it so far... I'd never go back, but...
It takes some getting used to, if you rode a lot of bikes in your day, it'll be a natural...what I notice most ( negitively ), about trail pounding / hare scramble racing, is that when flying into corners, ( I ) have a tendancy to not be able to roll completely off the throttle... this keeps the KBEC from engaging as much as I was originally used to... I nearly got my self in trouble a few times racing, & training on the nasty trails I train on, but now, it seem like I've gotten used to it... I even installed one on our 300 Prairie ( just to make sure I stay used to it, & the wife complained alot about thumb fatiuge, even with the thumb extender on it )...
I used the Motion Pro model for the 400 Prairie... it will go right on, but there is a problem, as the 4 X 4 engagement switch is part of the thumb throttle ( Motion Pro was working on a kit for the 650 Prairie, when I ordered mine, like 8 months ago )... I took my dremel & cut a rectangle hole in my handlebar plastic ( initially, as I have removed my handle bar shroud now, & relocated that switch to my electrical panel ), to mount the 4 X 4 engagement switch... this worked really well...
It worked so well, that a few of my riding buddys that have a MC back ground have converted thiers as well... If you do it, just allow yourself the time to get used to it, before you put yourself in a position of pushing the limit ( as in racing )... if you never rode MotorCycles, & spend the bulk of your riding hours on a quad with a thumb throttle, you may not like it ??? But I can honestly say, that my thumb has not been sore from even an all day ride, since the install...
