Dial-A-Jet gas Mileage
 

Has anyone else noticed a big change in gas mileage. I have a new exhaust coming this week and only dialed it in with the way it was running. She is strong out of the hole and mid range rocks, but the mileage went down the tubes.

Don't say gas milage down the tubes... I'm worried about my 700 it's burning $12.8 compared to 650 would burn $8.20. I can run out of gas at 60km. I have Brooks mod, 28 589, Dalton springs... as far as I know it's not leaking the gas LOL I guess I need to wait for summer to see.

As soon as I started modding my gas mileage went down the tubes. Around 40miles my light starts blinking. Haven't been on a big ride with my Dial-a-jets yet, but I will let you know.

Started getting things ready for a new set of pipes coming in this week and noticed something. My front carb was sitting on top of the intake instead of clamped down inside of it. Could this have been my problem?

I am puzzled by the change in mileage after the Dial a Jet, if I have read the literature about them correctly, you jet DOWN 2 or 3 sizes to create a lean condition,that in turn creates the vacuum pulse that draws fuel into the DAJ, spraying a super fine mist to fill in the ' gaps ' in the fuel droplets, giving better throttle response and power. I would think leaning out the carb would cut back fuel usage, agreed, the DAJ is adding additional fuel, but it should only add enough to make up for the lean condition, because it won't add fuel if you rev it in neutral, only when the motor is under a load. Are you sure you're not just are hitting the throttle more because you like the power, and are using more gas as a result ?? come on, fess up !!

I agree with 95wolv--since I installed mine, I love spinning the tires and hearing the exhaust. I know i am using a lot more fuel but could also be attributed to the conditions because I have been running almost full time in 4 wheel drive. The only true test is to pull your plug and check for lean or rich condition at full throttle

I just got back from a long hard ride with new exhaust system, 60 miles and the fuel light was on. I agree with how the dial-a-jet works, smaller jets less fuel. But I don’t go near as far as I used to. It ran very strong, however I do need to go back and redo the set up on the dial-a-jet for the best setting. It ran good where it was (pre-exhaust settings), so I went with and let it rip. During exhaust installation I noticed my front carb was not properly seated and that had to be doing something. I had one bar left at 60 miles and the other day I had 54 miles and no bar left so I improved but not much.
