Do Prairie's Fly?
#1
I am new to the ATV Scene and am wondering how well the Prairies handle flying. I am about 6'1, 220# and wanted to know how the P700 will hold up off the ground? I am handy, but not motor friendly. What, if any mods, should I consider.
Thanks,
Thanks,

Mines been airborn alot... some mods I've done, related to flying...
add the V Force rear axel reinforcing ring, if your Prairie doesn't have one on it already... Kawi doesn't make bolts long enough for the hitch & the reinforcing ring, so a trip to the hardware store is in order... you can get both on the machine, you may need to notch the hitch, but I didn't...
do not remove the front rack, or if you want to remove it, I added a 7/16" X 1 1/2" brace across the 2 rear bolts ( these support the front shock towers )...aftermarket front springs Elka's or Progressives are nearly a must, to keep the struts from bottoming out...
bypass the belt trip switch, it is very easy when landing, for the belt to slap the switch into limp mode...
the stock wheels are only equal to the .016 aftermarket wheels ( medium weight ), the .019's would be much better... the C series wheels have a 1" wider off set... this adds alot more stress to the suspension when landing... bead lock wheels are the best to use ( rumor has it the Hyper Techs composite wheels will be available for this quad, this year... these would be the ultimate...
run a tire similar to the ITP ATR's, Maxxis All Traks, etc ... too much air pressure will make the sidewalls hard, & put a lot more stress on the drive train ( this is one of the reasons the bead locks are recommended...
these are a few recommendations, I'd start with the 1st I listed & work your way down...

Click on the camera by my name here and you will see a couple pics of a Prairie flying! These are little jumps, we have cleared a 40 ft table top and I know it's been 6ft plus in the air! If you jump it too much tho you better reinforce the top strut mounts are you will bend them bad and break the tops of the struts. I just got home from welding in supports in a new 700 P that we are racing this weekend! Also as Newbeatle said, the ring around the rear end is a must also, we split a rear end wide open at the MX track off a big double.

Thanks for the info. I will now have to find out what the ring around the rear end is. Is this an aftermarket part or something I would have to have made. Appreciated the support.

It is a differential housing strengthener ring. The V-Force comes stock with one.
The P-700 only flies when the wings are deployed.......................................... ..."to make houses look smaller; pull back on yoke".

DOGG... it is available right from Kawi, it is stock on the V Forces... it is the cheapest stock Kawi part I think I've ever bought ... around $8.00-$10.00 ???... it is definately cheap insurance to protect the rear axel housing, if you land hard, in you heavy weight flying machine... I highly reccommend getting longer bolts, & ( notching if you need to ), to get both the hitch & the reinforcing ring on... the hitch actually helps reinforce the left side of the housing, which makes the combination of the two, give better support than the V Force has with just the reinforcing ring on the right side... this is needed, IMO, because of the heavier unsprung weight & heavier over all weight of the Prairie, over the Force... happy flying...
