Muzzy's Tech on Jet-Hot
Called Muzzy's today to ask about Jet-Hot- he said they do not rec. it. " adds weight, resticts pipe, no perf gain " he said ok for car guys but not on bikes. "use as shipped" .......

I don't care about extra weight. I am looking forward to a cooler pipe next to my legs!

The weight gain would be in the neighborhood of a handfull of paper clips.....you would have more of a weight gain from the mud kicked up onto your bike after going through a mud puddle. How do they figure the coating restricts the pipe?

I have some very accurate scales. I will weigh them first. I will also weigh the stock pipes and heat gaurds. I will try to get the V under 500 lbs. The heel gaurds weighed 5.6 lbs.

They generally coat inside & out. The inner coating would make the ID smaller.

It does look like they coated the inside of my pipes but the thickness of the coating that is applied is so thin that you would never notice a performance difference. I know in certain parts of the motor that fractions of an inch can make a huge difference but a fraction of an inch difference in the I.D. of an exhaust pipe will not be noticed.

I only reported what the " Tech " said, not agreeing or disagreeing. Figured you guys would want to know. I'm sure a few ounces of coating would make no difference, same for restriction although Muzzy's head pipes are fairly small. What I would be concerned with is all the joints and fitment after being coated. I am now considering using them as is for now,and possibly coating them at a later time. Not to mention just dropping a couple grand on it and I still want shocks- carbon fiber hood--paddles&wheels etc etc .....

The list can go on forever! There is always something else to buy.

Pistonman, you do have a point on the fitment....there is the potential with already tight fitting parts to not fit should the coating be applied too thick. I had no problems but I will say that putting on the exhaust gasket was pretty tight.....had to "walk" it onto the pipe. The other tight spot was where the pipe goes into the can. Again, things were tight in these areas but not too tight that I had to muscle anything on.
P.S. I hear ya on the laundry list of aftermarket parts out there. I'm still saving towards my Elka's. |
