looking for some suggestions on Mods for my p650
#1
I was just wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions on what modifications I can put on my p650 and what they will do for my bike. I would like to know the pluses and minuses. I just put on 27" Mudlites.
Thanks

the nyroc muffler mod (drill holes in baffle) or a new exhaust would help. New air filter too. p700 belt and black secondary spring would be a good upgrade as well.

xrxman,
TIRES/RIMS
Glad to see you replaced the dunflops already...they are a must go! You might also want to consider getting some new (stronger/better looking) rims to go with your new tires. I like my C-series rims as they look good and are stronger than stock rims (but unfortunately c-series are not totally unbendable as I did have to replace 1 c-series rim this year from a nasty rock I hit during a GNCC race).
MODULES/ CDI
First thing I'd recommend is to get a module (either DG holeshot or Highlifters new ICM module) OR if you don't mind spending another 100 or 200 bucks extra, you can wait a month and get the new Dyna cdi (this cdi should be even better than the modules and should be well worth the extra cost).
MOTOR
There are lots of upgrades available here from mild to wild. For starters, go with the Napa hose mod or DG snorkel to increase the air going into the air box, use a high flow air filter like Twin Air, and either do the Nyroc muffler mod OR buy an aftermarket exhaust pipe. You will probably need to rejet after you do this and/or you can install Dial-a-Jets to get the Air/Fuel Ratio correct again.
CVT UPGRADES
If you want to drag race or do sled pulls, you could change out your primary clutch spring (costs like $20). You might try the EPI red for this purpose. However, if you plan to do mostly trail rides or rock climbs, you might want to change out your primary clutch spring with the stock P700 spring. In either case, get a P700 belt whenever your stock P650 belt wears out (no sense in changing it out early unless you just want to spend the extra $65 now) as this will give you about 1 mph more top-speed in high range and 2 mph more top-speed in low range. At least thats the improvement that I noticed when I switched to the P700 belt.
SUSPENSION
You could also reduce front end dive when you hit the brakes hard or turn sharp during high speed trail rides/races by replacing the front springs with either Progressive or Elkas. The Elkas are the only true dual rate spring, but they also cost more.
There are lots of other things, but the above mods will get you started. Happy trails...
