Why aren't ATV's legal to ride in cities in Illinois?
 

Hey guys,
I'm new here and have been researching this subject, but haven't found really any solid arguments on any websites really. I would like to know what you guys have to say about the subject. It just does not make sense to me, why ATVs aren't allowed on city roads.

I would think that they should be allowed because...They are safer than motorcycles.They are fast enough for in cities (up to 45 MPH average).They are more maneuverable than motorcycles. Thay offer same amount of protection as a motorcycle or moped.

I know what you mean, All-Terain-Vehicle. I know atvs are meant for off-road use, but they are just as able to ride on roads as motorcycles and mopeds.

They are not safer than motorcycles, and are certainly not nearly as stable at speed. Even with highway tires you will not have the stability needed.

They are less maneuverable than bikes. Have you ever ridding a streetbike?

They actually offer a little more protection than a bike or moped, but you still arent nearly as safe as in an automobile.

You must live in a Natzi state. In Montana and Idaho they are easily street legalized. I had to add a horn, lighted licence plate holder and mirror. They also have life time regestraition for both street and off-road in Montana.

i live in a small town in central illinois. ya, it's illegal to ride them on the road, but we still do. don't have to worry too much here, town has one cop who will basically just warn you if he catches you on it, and if you're an adult he may not say anything at all if he knows you. besides that there's just the occasional county or state trooper that passes through town. i think that they should be legalized for the road, i mean their just as easily seen as motorcycles, although they may not be as safe at high speeds. i ride ours down the road full throttle (about 58 according to the speedo) and if feels stable to me.

No, its not a good thing. I live in the country and its way too crowded. I feel at home at my Uncle's Ranch in WY.
