FRONT DIFFERENCIAL SEAL
#1
hey guys,
went out and rode last weekend and parked my bike and noticed an oil leak on the front differencial on the left axle side. where the left axle goes into the front left side of the differencial. apperently theres a seal there right???? well, its an '02 prairie 650 and i'm guessing i need to change the seal out. Does anyone know how to change it out or how difficult it is to change it???? i know how to take the axle out and everything else thats needed to be taken off just the seal part. any info would help. thanks alot.

Maddog, I changed a bunch of seals on my 650 and it's pretty easy. A little time consuming but not hard. I crossed all the seal sizes and ordered them through a bearing supplier I deal with. The seals were gonna cost me about $50 Can. through my stealer and I got them for $24. The seals looked a little different, but they are exactly the same size as stockers, there is no water in my diffs, and there is no oil on the outside of my diifs. They must be workin!! The stock Kawie part number for that seal is 92049-1536 and it's dimensions are HTCY 62x81x10.5.

Kodiac, I have 3300kms on my 650 and I haven't had any problems with my clutch bushings yet. No weird noises, the belt is fine and things seem to be fairly tight. I notice a little more knocking coming from the CVT when it is cold so I am thinking the wear shoes are getting worn. Gonna rip the whole thing apart in a couple months.

Ok.....thats what I was wanting to know.Mine has 1300 miles and this winter when it turned cold I noticed mine was knocking REAL loud at idle.I took mine apart and before I even removed any of the pulleys I just grabbed the drive pulley assembly and shook it up and down and it had quite a bit of slop in it.I got the puller from EPI and took it off and then I removed the outer cover on the drive pulley and measured the bushing....it was out of spec and you could feel sloppiness in the inner bushing also.I took the drive assy to a dealer because I don't have the holder to seperate the spider from the sheave. They did not either and ordered it this week so hopefully next week I will get it and the inner bushing back. Now as far as the outer bushing it is only serviced with the cover itself.I think it was $85.00 and it calls for three diff ones.Insted of that I am taking it to a buddy tomorrow that has a machine shop to see if he can make be a bushing for it.My shoes are in spec so I bet your noise is caused by the bushings.I went ahead and checked the driven bushings and they were just out of spec so I ordered them too but the dealer was not sure they were actually available...???.I was just curious if you had encountered this yet but I guess not.
I am maybe just a little too much of a maintainence freak I guess
If you get into it and have any questions let me know......also I just can't believe that teh drive pulley does not have a key or is splined!!!!!!!!!!!!.....it is nothing more than a tapered fit and thats enough to pull everything!!!
