Just wait tell he puts the box on the 750 Its a huge difference Not tring to rain on your parade Because the 650 is a great quad also But he will probably get about 4 more bikes in 4 blocks then

Will and aftermarket CDI or clutch kit give us more topend? I know they'll give better acceleration, but what extra mph? How can a guy get more?

Prairedog,
Yes, the Dyna CDI improved my topspeed by 3 mph (its plug and play and reasonably priced around $250). I bought my last Dyna CDI on ebay, so check there.

The clutch kits usually impact acceleration only and don't do much for top-speed.

However, you can do the top-speed primary clutch mod for some more top-speed. I did this mod a year ago on my old P650 and gained another 3mph top-speed. Not bad for the money! You can either get a local machine shop to do this mod for you or there is a guy called "VForceJohn" on another forum that does this mod for approx. $120, so PM me if you are interested and I'll tell you how to get in touch with that guy. I you can also find more info on this primary clutch mod by looking at Nyroc's website (atv.dnsalias.com).

The CDI will give you more top speed but mostly just make it quicker and a clutch kit most of the time will take about 2 mph off the top speed But you cant get true top speed on anything but flat ground so 2 mph either way doesnt realy matter I like the CDI mod in a BF it realy makes the thing rip The clutch kits all seem to have a slight draw back to me either top speed or EBS or low speed RPM The best thing is to always use the proper range for the type of riding you are doing

4Fitty,
I've heard mixed results on clutch springs/weights. Some say you will lose 1 or 2 mph with spring X or Y, and others say they saw no difference. I've never tried changing the weights, but have tried 3 or 4 primary springs and also a different secondary spring with no noticeable difference in the top-speeds. Again, these are just my experiences.

I think you summed it up nicely when you said to use the type of clutch set-up (springs and/ or weights) that best fits your riding style (and also the particular mods on your quad too).

KrazeMudder,
I think I noticed my top-speed increased about 1 mph around 250 or 300 miles after I bought it (brand new). Some of the increase after break-in is the CVT belt stretching...a long belt means it climbs higher on the primary pully and increases top-speed a little bit. Of course, the cylinder rings getting fully seated after break-in is another reason why the motor usually runs better too.
