No reverse over-ride or reverse on P650 2002
We just bought a used Prairie 650 with 82 hours and 300miles on it, it looks, runs and sounds like new with one exceptoin.
It appears that the reverse over ride was unhooked. When put into reverse the reverse light does not come on and it has not reverse limeter, it will go wide open in reverse. It has the stock CDI box in it and we tried a different CDI box from a P650 that everything worked just like stock on. The quad ran fine but still no reverse light or reverse limeter, she was wide open.
Can anyone tell me where to look for this issue?
Thanks

The previous owner might have wired the reverse override in direct to bypass the switch (I did). If you are using your wheeler to plow snow, that switch can be a real pain. Take the plastic housing around the handlebars off and check to see if there are any wires in there that are spliced together. If there are 2 wires that are spliced, unsplice them and try it in reverse. The light that tells you the bike is in reverse could be something as simple as a fuse or the reverse position switch. The switch is located right behind the coolant tank on the left side of the bike closest to the tank (there are 2 switches there. The one closest to the engine is the neutral position switch.)

i know this happens on my brute, but its basically the same setup as the prairie: my linkage needed an adjustment, my reverse light would not come on but i was in reverse and reverse overide did not work. it maybe in reverse gear but whatever makes the electrical connection to make the reverse light come on looks like that may complete the circuit for the reverse overide. just a thought. mastrblastr's ideas sounds like the obvious culprit though.
