Break in period for Oil Change

Just picked up my 07 BF SRA last friday, follwed the break in instructions listed here http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm seems to be a pretty reasonable & popular way to get things broke in. Question now is, it says you should change your oil after 20miles, I have 4 hours & 50 miles, I want to use synthetic & dont want to change it again at 10 hours, would you suspect all the shavings have dumped into the oil by now or should I wait to change it?

I don't think it really matters whether you do it now or just a few hours later as long as your filter is doing its job. It's not like chunks of metal debris are floating in the oil cirulation path all the time - they will be caught by the filter if any. Just make sure you use a quality oil and filter when you do the change.

I assume it would be fine to go with Synthetic at this point?

Yes, you can go with synthetic, preferrably Amsoil

Take a look at this link...it's been around a few times, but still really interesting!

I hope it helps.

I've followed these break in procedures with no problems.

Sorry, didn't see your reference to the link in your first post.

My 2 cents...the first couple changes are very important. If you don't want to spend the money on synthetic for a short change, I would give it one more go with the regular oil and then switch sometime around 10 hr.

I have broken-in 2 of the Kawie twins with a couple of quick changes and then synthetic with good results.

Good luck!

Yea I want to use synthetic, but what oil? I know most use amsoil, but I havn't found a store around here who carries it, & I dont want to order it.. Also what is a good alternative oil filter to the kawasaki filter and part# if you have it. thanks
