1994 Kawasaki Mojave 250 Cam And Valve Problem

I have recently talk to a guy like a week ago about my 94 Mojave it wont kick start when cold you would have to compression start it once it was warm it ran great you could shut it off but for no longer than 20 to 30 minutes once it is warm and like you stall it will start up first kick without even trying anyways he said it was my valve clearance i did everything he told me to I set them to .008 like I was told made sure that the t mark on the flywheel was in line with the index grove after all that it started up 3rd kick i ran it for like 2 hours Saturday and i noticed a slight tick when it was running i didn't think much of it then after a lunch brake it didn't want to kick start once again i was a little pissed so we compression started and it ran fine and then i let it sit over night the next day still didn't want to kick start so i compression started it again and drove it for an hour and the little tick then turned to a knock and the more i was driving it it was increasing in loudness so then i figured i would stopped before i broke it so then i let it cool down and took the head off to find out that the lobes for the intake and exhaust had very deep ridges on them and the compression release thing dug some metal out of the engine block also the valve clearance had once again became tight i will put some pictures on to show you what I'm talking about but what could I have done wrong or what could have went wrong sorry for the long post im only 15 and new to atvs so Thanks for the help its highly appreciated

.008 way too loose!!! think about it slop in ur valve train will beat the heck out of ur cams. as for ur compression release eatn at ur "block" a.k.a. Head. That will happen when ur cams r floatn around in the head with out ur rockers holding them down! Ask ur guy u talked to to buy u a new head, cams, and rockers cuz he gave u false info on vavle clearance which wiped out ur top-end!!!!!!

Sorry I haven't got back to ya, been busy. I understand that the manual says .008, BUT I always run mine a little tighter than that. Are you sure that you had it on the compression stroke when you lined up the timing marks? Just thought I'd ask.

ok just thought I'd ask. Not trying to offend you but U never know who ur talking to on here. I know this model inside and out. It's been a favorite of mine since 87, that and the 250x. After all they were the biggest 4strokes u could get then in a sport quad. You wouldn't believe some of the questions i get at the shop, thats why i asked that question about the compression stroke.
