2003 Prairie 360 4x4 won't start..
Hello all,
New to the forum and looking forward to sharing ATV experiences,= I just purchased a 2003 Prairie 360 4x4 and brought it home on Friday after having all of the fluids changed and a tune up done. I drove about an hour yesterday and when I brought it home, it just stopped running. Now it will not start at all. After running it yesterday, it did idle really low and acted like it was starved for gas at low rpms, but was fine once the rpms went up. Can someone give me suggestions on where to start? Is this something I can handle myself? I have the shop manual and am okay with a wrench, so if there are any suggestions that anyone has, I would sure appreciate it. Thanks! |

Hello all.
I replaced the gas thinking that would help, no go. Pulled the carb and cleaned up as best I could without taking it completely apart - was pretty clean. Check the fire from the plug wire and there is fire there. Pulled the plug and it is found and smelling strong of gas. I think I need to adjust my mixture and make it run more lean. Anyone have any tips on how to do this? Is this a difficult procedure? |
Don't change carb setting UNLESS you know it is out of spec which I highly doubt it is.
The reason why you are smelling strong gas is because it didn't get burnt obvously (yes, you knew), not because of too much fuel but because of not enough air/oxygen. Check/adjust valve clearance and set it to the looser side of the spec, really easy to do on this engine. It's just simple lock-nut (10 mm) and slotted screw adjustment. |
