Default Mule starter problems, 99 model 2510

I recently made a bad mistake of taking this Mule out mudding with a bunch of 4 wheelers. Se held her ground but a few days later the starter started acting up. Sounds like the bendix isn't kicking in. i haven't had it long and haven't even looked under it to locate the starter yet. all i did when i got back from the river was check the filters and change the oil. breather was still clean and no water in oil. open for advice and suggetsions before i go into it though. how hard is it to get off / and is it worth cleanng or repairing or just replace it? any help would be appreciated.

I had one with the same problem. It was a diesel engine. The starter was a pain to get off. One bolt was in a place that was hard to get to. I finally used a grinder on the block or transmission housing to gain a little room. The Kawasaki shop charged $35.00 to clean the starter. It has worked fine for over a year.

So maybe i don't need to order a new starter. that would be good news. I still haven't had time to play with it yet. I reached under it and felt 2 of the bolts toward the bottom side. Looked like it would be a lot easier on a rack. May have to find me some channel iron and put the winch to work.

Hey guess what almost a week later i got around to taking a look at it. Tried it a few times and it happened to catch and crank. After a little warm up run and a few more tricky starts it kept getting easier until i had no problem at all the latter part of the day. Go figure. We'll try it again next weekend and see what happens. I'll keep my fingers crossed. It probably won't screw up til i am miles from nowhere.
