excessive throttle before moving

2005 Prairie 360 starts right up and idles fine. However, I need to overly engage the throttle (you can hear the engine revs increasing as expected) until it starts moving. You'll hear a slight chirp of the tires once it moves, as if it's getting too much power. I compared it to a 2009 360 and the 2009 starts moving as soon as you press the throttle.
Could it be the belt? I just cleaned out the carb, btw.
I'm thinking that the belt is too loose and considering pulling the cover off the 09 to compare the tension.
However, I've spent too many weekends lately working on my kids other ATVs and dirt bikes - I just want to get this last one resolved so I can move on.

thanks

It could be the spark plugs. Did you check it already?

hesitating

Yes, I did change the plug. I always do that first. I tried cleaning out the carb again and realized there were a few things that I overlooked. It still hesitates but not consistently. I'm thinking it's the carb or the choke cable. I have access to a 2009, that has the identical parts, so I'm going to swap out the cable, the carb and then just keep swapping stuff.
Thanks for the reply.

excessive throttle to get moving

Please see my initial msg at top of thread for description of problem.

The Prairie I bought was used and had an EPI aftermarket clutch spring installed. Doing some research I discovered that this hesitation before moving was normal, when a stiffer clutch spring is installed. It provides extra power when going from dead stop in mud.

I replaced the EPI spring with the factory one and the throttle now works like you'd expect.

The EPI spring was pink and they come in other colors to indicate the various values.

I just noticed that you have the lights blinking. If you have the service manual then you'll see a chapter discussing the different sequence of blinks, and what it means.

I still get the 4wd flash ever now and then, but it goes away and has never impacted my performance.

The one thing is it will go into limp mode, i.e. only goes like 10 mph max, until the 100 hr maint is reset. This is an easy fix btw. There are 2 connectors, near the engine, that you mess with. I have this info in the service manual, and the svc manual is over my friend's house. if you want more detailed info, and you don't have the svv manual then let me know. i'll get the manual and provide the instructions to reset those lights.

How much of a delay should there be before the bike takes off? I just purchased a 99 Prairie 300 4x4 and it revs up before taking off suddenly. I've never drove an atv that took off like this and not sure if this is normal or not
