I have to get a battery for a 93 Kawasaki Bayou 220. When I checked at dealers they ask me if it’s a Bayou 220 or a Bayou (CN). The two are not the same. One required more amps then the other. What does the (CN) stand for? What is the difference between a bayou 220 and a bayou 220 (CN)? The dealer didn’t know either. They started making the CN in 92? What happens if I put a 12 high amp battery in Atv that only requires 8amps? Will that ruin anything? Any help would be great!!!!

 

that is a very good question, I've never heard of the Bayou 220 CN before.... I"m not sure if it would hurt anything or not, as I am not sure of what the effects could be. BUt I would think that the fuse would keep anything from getting damaged from a higher amperage battery. But I would ask the dealer if it would hurt anything on the quad. THe dealer should know what type of quad you have if you give them your vin number, (at least I would think)

 

thanks for the input! What weight oil do you use in your Bayou? I bought a Bayou that a rider had instorage for awhile and it needs new gas and an oil change. would you recommend anything else to do to it?

 

I use 10 w30 in my 220 during the winter. During summer if your quad runs too hot, you might want to switch over to a higher weight oil. When you refill your quad with gas, only put in regular unleaded. You really don't need to put premium in it, as the 220 does not have very much engine compression, and you will not gain any engine performance. Since it's been sitting a while, I'd check the air filter, to make sure it isn't dirty, also you should grease the front joints/bearings. If you need any more help, just let me know.

 

Don't try the CN "12 amp hour" battery. I already did and it gets its extra amps from being about 1/2 inch taller. The stock bracket will not work to hold the battery in place with the larger battery.

 

I purchased a battery at WalMart. When I put it in it was slightly taller than the old one. I had to bend the bracket a little to make it fit. I have not had any electrical problems with the taller battery, and I have had it for about 9 months now.

 

Did you get the other battery? The non-CN model and how is it working? Wal-mart seems to be the best place to go for batteries. Thats were I was planning on getting my new battery at also. I called the dealer and they want 70 bucks.....I go over to Wal-mart and they have them for 40.

 

I guess mine is the CN model because it was taller than the stock one and I had to bend the bracket to make it fit. It works fine, no problems except bending the bracket and I think the seat fits a little snug against the battery but it works fine.

 

According to the Kawasaki shop manual for the KLF220, there is a "C" designation for models sold in Canada. Other designations include U (United States), A (Australian), UK (United Kingdom) and E (European).

I have had the somewhat larger battery in my 220 for over a year now.

 

It sounds like I can get the smaller battery and everything will be fine. Thats the first explanation I've gotten from anyone for the CN. the C for Canada I can see buy what is the N? Nigeria, Naples......... I can't believe non of the dealers could answer this for me. 10-40 is what I run in my 300ex but the 220 you think I should use 10-30?
