Klf300 sputtering need help plz

Default Klf300 sputtering need help plz

90ish new to me
Fixed petcock
Cleaned carb
Will crank and run but spits sputters pops backfires
Now if I turn the lights on it smoothed out and runs pretty good
Never seen this issue
Voltage reg get real hot too

Have you check charing rate? I f you turned lights on an ran better atv maybe over charging...When the lights was turned on that took some voltage away...Checking rate....

Also if over charging to much volts to the cdi could cause misfires...

Finally got back to work on the ride.
Evidently the charger (dead battery) was putting out to many volts and causing the issue. Changed chargers and it will run but still has a little pop or sputter every now and then.
New issue is the bike is not charging the battery so I'm on the hunt now to find out why.
