2006 kfx700 problems

I just recently rebuilt my friends 06 kfx700 v twin. I put a new wiseco piston and rings on it and a new gasket kit. So after I put it back together it still would not start. It gets spark and still does not start even with started fluid. Any suggestions to why it does not start?? And it does backfire occasionally!! Any help? Thanks

Need alil more information on quad . What was the reason for the rebuild? broken piston? just time? sink in water? run hot?Was it running before teardown? Thanks in advance just trying to get more infro to see if can help,

It ran fine until one weekend when it wouldn't start so we did some basic checks and nothing was found, so we took it apart and saw the cylinder was scratched and so were the pistons. We had the cylinders honed and we replaced the pistons. Still wouldn't start...?

If it's getting spark, fuel, air, and the timing is correct, it should start.

Backfire makes me suspect bad timing. Did it backfire before rebuilding?

I'd check the electrical wires for proper connection. Could be you have a spark plug cap/s that are not getting connection all the time, or where the wires go into the coils.

I don't know if this machine has fuel injection, but maybe there is a fuel supply issue there or in the carbs/line/tank.

If using starter fluid, use sparingly. I prefer to pull a spark plug/s and dribble some gas in cylinder.

Is there compression, and is it within spec?

Sounds like a timing issue to me. If thats not it, check the valve clearances again to be sure. Id say its a simple problem from the sounds of it.

agree

more than likely the valve timing is incorrect

Timing is what Im guessing also..but make sure the ground wires from engine to frame good, also good ground with batt to frame.

definitely sounds like a timing issue, but if you messed w/ the carbs., u might think about those, they are the touchiest ones I`ve ever ran across.
