what ft lbs. did you torque the bolts down to?

hondaboy5 Apr 3, 2001 10:16 PM

not really sure i put it on as tight as i can with a wratchet and socket. i changed the bolts back there these are a little smaller. how ,loud is the ids2 did you get racing or the quite series. does it have good performance. do you think white brother's or FmF will come out with a pipe for it. is there any way to get better throttle respone. it seems like it don't get alot of power to the ground. I rode a 400ex saturday a really fast quad. Really Awsome whillie machine. I can wheelie my lakota for a pretty good ways.

Hondaboy5, I don't mean to be rude so please do not take any offense to what I write. This is only advice and my opinion. I remember you stating you are 15. You should really proofread what you write. Your posts are often difficult to follow due to your word choice and sentence structure. I'm no teacher (and certainly nowhere near perfect) and I'm not belittling your intelligence, but a guy your age should be able to make sense and write proper grammer. You can dowload a free dictionary too that would help. Here is a link:
http://www.netword.demon.co.uk/wweb/ I use mine all the time. Another thing, It would be to your benefit to start taking notes while reading these posts. I have answered these exact questions for you more than once, along with several others. I will do it again for you, but you should really take notes so you can compare. 1st of all the carrier bolts need to be tightened down to 40 foot pounds of torque. I reallize you may not have a torque wrench, but this is the way to insure they are tight enough. The IDS2 is a very good pipe with quite noticable power increases. The quite series (which is what I have)is louder than stock, but not objectionably so. It has a very cool sound to it. The jet kit along with a K&N filter and pipe will give you much better throttle response. SuperTrapp is very highly regarded and many top pros run them. JMHO of course!

Hondaboy, I couldn't agree with stebob more. I quit looking at your post, much less answering them, a while back. I only read this one because it involved a repair. After being a mechanic for 20 years(not one now though) I like to share my experience with people and help them if I can. Especially if they have a mojave or lakota.

Two things about your post alarm me.
1. If I read right, it sounds like you are adjusting the chain while it is running. That is not the way to do it. Measure the slack in the chain with the quad sitting normally and not running. It should be about 1 1/2 to 2 inches measured in the center of the top chain span.
2. You mentioned replacing the carrier locking bolts with smaller ones. Why? These bolts must screw into the carrier threads. The nuts on the bottom are jamb nuts, their purpose is to keep the bolts from coming loose, not to tighten the swing arm to the carrier.

Oh yea, one other thing. You need to grow up and act like a 15 year old should. I remember an older post of yours where you asked about some riding area and one of your questions was "do you have to have a helmet there". You should wear a helmet EVERY time you get on your quad!!! It is this and other behavior like it that is getting all our riding areas closed. Much of it, not all, comes from irresponsible teenagers. I do all of my riding with my 16 year old son. I have taught him to be responsible and respectful, as well as thoughtful or he does not ride. He does very well. This does not mean we do not ride hard and fast and have a lot of fun. It simply means we know where the line is that gets our areas closed and use common sense and courtesy. I suggest you learn the same. I really don't mean to bash you because I think everyone that loves atving should be involved. I really want you to enjoy the sport, but do it properly.

Have you been loosening the brake torque arm as well as the carrier bolts? If you don't loosen the torque arm bolts then you won't be able to rotate the carrier to tighten your chain.

mojaveaddict Apr 5, 2001 05:48 PM

you should not have to loosen the brake arm. The carrier bolts are all that need to be loosened. If you are having to loosen the brake arm, then the pads are sticking or binding to the rotor or the caliper mount is sticking where it rotates around the carrier.

That is what it said in the owners manual and that is how I did mine.

ATV_MAN Apr 7, 2001 09:45 PM

Just take a link out of your chain, it will be tighter and now it will be like new.
