I got my June 2002 issue of AVT Sport in the mail today, on page 51, in an article on Mike Penland and his 650 Prairie I read an interesting item.
"Sometimes, pre-production quads are a little too fast and make the corporate lawyers nervous. This may have been the case with the Prairie 650 and Brenan ( Kawasaki's Russ Brenan ) tells us that the original ignition for the machine provided stronger bottom end perfomance. Kawasaki's test riders discovered - just by coincedence - that pushing the reverse rev un-limiter button while in a forward drive range gave even more bottom end! Brenan wants to get his hands on one of these units for the Prairie or possibly an aftermarket ignition from MSD." I wonder if the production units work the same way ???? I'll have to try it the next time I have the quad out. I guess that substantiates the rumor that the engines were detuned before being released to the public. |
I tried the "Pushing the Override Button in Forward" trick this afternoon. No change, as best as I could tell. I tested on pavement so there would be no issues with tire spin.

How about unplugging the battery while running, then plugging it back in?
Thats supposed to do something to the power too. |
