i have a 1997 mojave and just recently got a clamp on filter and am having trouble with the jetting i am running a 142 main and it runs great at full throttle it idle fun but when you touch the throttle it dies
i was thinkin i need to move the needle but can you on a mojave i dont c a circlip on the needle at all
or do i need a larger slow speed jet

Slow jet should be fine. Not sure about the clip, but if it has one what you do is, lift up the spring. Then, while spring is up, lift up the plastic piece that the spring sits on. Then, while spring & plastic piece are up, push the cable down & to the side with the slot in it & it should pop out. This is a pain, but the more you do it the easier it gets. There should be a nut holding the needle in. Take it off & needle should slide out. If it has more than one slot with a clip on it, you can play with it.

What jet was in to start with? It should have been a 132 if it was still stock jetting. Adding a pipe and clamp on filter will usually require changing to a 135. Only rarely is a 138 needed. Check your plug, I bet is very black except for one small spot on one side. If so, change to a 135 and see if that helps. You are probably way rich now. (I am using factory jet sizes, not K&N or Dynojet which are different)

The stock needle is not adjustable, your right no clips. You would need to get a Dyno Jet jet kit. This will come with a new needle that is adjustable. Check your plug, too, for a rich or lean condition.

the plug looks good just a tan to light grey color on the electrodes and insuater

i was running a 138 and it was cutting out terrible on top so i upped it and know i cuts out in the middle a lil and try's to die right when you touch the gas off of idle

Get the dynojet kit. They usualy are right on & the new needle will be worth it! When weather changes, so does jetting. I'm sure you know this, but it is nice to be able to change settings of midrange in differant seasons. Good luck!

im went to the local small engine mechanic and asked him what he thought of the plug and he said he thought it looked fine not rich im goin to the local dealer now and i will get some slow speed jets and maybe this will help

Start wih a rich setting & work your way down.

When you checked your plug did you run full throttle, 1/2 throttle, 1/4 throttle or what? Remember to accurately check your plug you have to "chop" it. hold the throttle at the spot where it's cutting out for a mile or so, then immed turn off the engine. Determine where in the throttle range this is happening (ie. 1/8, 1/4/, 1/2, ect.) Check your plug at that time.

As said before, get the jet kit. The needle is diff. than the stock one, not just adjustable, but a taper as well. Just a clamp on, pipe, and what you have done shouldn't require a pilot jet change.

142.5 i know it seems huge but thats whats workin
i had a 141.3 in there and it had a lil flat spot plug looked pretty good tried a 142.5 and it works great
